Paparazzi, Cologne

"Paparazzi" plays on the theme of seeing and being seen, so we gave the restaurant a semi-transparent glass front through which the silhouetted guest can be seen, without feeling observed.

The middle section is fitted throughout in basalt stone, forming the centre of the space. At the edge of this central area is a free-standing pizza oven, which is placed and designed so that the guest can watch the open fire in the oven. In contrast to the monolithic central space, light, recessed spaces are formed round the outer edges offering the possibility of retreat.
