InterContinental Stadthaus, Cologne

When in Cologne, we want to see the Cathedral! At least this was the idea on which our design for the rooms at the Intercontinental in Cologne was based. So we abstracted details from the facade of the Cathedral, in collaboration with photographer Bernd Nörig, and reproduced them on wall panels to give each room the possibility of its own unique view of the cathedral. The Cologne Cathedral motif is featured everywhere in the hotel and establishes a connection with the city, even for the frequent traveller.

In order to offer guests some variety, we created zones with different atmospheres to greet them, throughout the entire hotel. In the foyer of the conference area, lighting effects produce seating-islands and discreet niches into which one can withdraw. The wine room and fireside lounge exude cosiness, while the bright and open lobby extends its welcome to the guest.

Spotlights are projected on to the surfaces, producing highlights. This connection with light can be further encountered throughout the hotel and artistically binds the various areas together.
