Radisson SAS, Cologne
A hotel is a place in which people from all over the world meet together, with their differing cultures,
professions and multifarious interests. In a certain sense, this place is a stage for the citizens of the
world. These are exactly the ideas we wanted to manifest in our design for the Radisson Hotel in Cologne.
In the spacious lobby area are dancers, brought to life in the form of an abstracted display from the Pina
Bausch production "The Rites of Spring" and animated through the effects of light. Similarly, the rust-red
curtain which separates the lobby from the bar, is reminiscent of a stage curtain.
The rooms and suites, on the other hand, offer the possibility of retreat. They are dominated by opposing
materials, such as cool, satiny mirrors and soft, elegant fabrics as well as the warmth of wood. A sensual
contrasting of materials is brought into play; hot and cold, rough and smooth, creating friction and excitement
and moving as a common theme throughout the entire hotel.
